Re: POW-MIA Flags Fly
Date: March 24, 1999
After news of a city ordinance that prevented businesses from flying the POW-MIA flag made the networks, the flag is flying again.
The Gainesville, Florida, ordinance specifically stated that only 'government' flags may be flown by businesses. A local car dealership was prevented from flying the POW-MIA flag, news got out and the emails, letters, faxes and phones went crazy.
City officials needed an education and they go it - The POW-MIA flag is recognized under Federal law, and is required BY law to be flown on specific dates and observances on federal Buildings such as the White House and at the Vietnam Veterans Memeorial to name a few. Congress has always flown the flag in the Capitool Rotunda.
The flag flies.
