Mr. Bob Necci

Dear Mr. Necci:

This responds to your December 15, 1998, letter requesting comment on a recently published book regarding POW rescue operations in Southeast Asia. You ask if the author's facts are accurate.

To obtain comment on the book in question, I recommend you contact one of the many publications that conduct literary reviews. In regards to POW rescue operations, during the Vietnam War, American and allied forces conducted only one POW rescue mission that recovered a live American. The operation took place in July 1969. Regretfully, the rescued American was mortally wounded by the enemy and died shortly after the rescue.

I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

Charles W. Henley
