Unit 731 Admission

October 4, 1997

News reports have stated that a former Japanese MP has admitted to atrocities as part of Unit 731. The admission came in civil court.

The 83 year old man offered,"It was all a big secret. We didn't know what the unit did, but we knew it was frightening unit and that once you were sent there, you never came back alive."

"Unit 731 was able to exist because of the kempei-tai (Japan's notorious wartime military police), which provided it with people to experiment on. Sending someone to Unit 731 was an act of murder."

It should be noted that although there is an admission to participation a caveat was offered as well, "...We didn't know what the unit did..."

Everyone in the world knows what Unit 731 did. And Japan has never apologized, or offered compensation to those who have lived with those atrocious memories ever since. Even Japan's Supreme Court has ruled that no text in Japan may refer the actions by the 'Ishii Unit' as criminal, wrong or atrocious.
