Re: Former POWs Sue Japan
Date: June 26, 1997
Arthur Titherington, a survivor of the horrific Japanese Labour Camps, has vowed to continue a court battle forcing Japan to apologize and pay damages to former WW II POWs.
Titherington is quoted, " I surrendered once to the Japanese. I didn't like it, I will not surrender again."
The former British POWs, 10,000 in number, are seeking compensation of $22,000 a piece and a real apology. It should be noted that in excess of 12,000 British POWs died at the hands of the Japanese.
