Re: Time To Rewrite History?
Date: June 19, 1997
Robert McNamara made his way to Hanoi for the Conference on Missed Opportunities this week. It is McNamara's second trip to SEA in as many years.
From 20 to 23 June, historians, researchers and think-tankers will debate and perhaps rewrite the history of the longest war in Vietnam to create a 'cohesive national memory of the war.' In addition to McNamara, former North Vietnamese General, Vo Nguyen Giap, will also be in attendance.
Following the conference, Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, is scheduled to mett with the Vietnamese to discuss bilateral trade, migration, human rights and, oh yes, 'missing'.
Interesting that no one has said those words... POW-MIA.
Maybe our government has forgotten, but we haven't.
