KOREAN/COLD WAR ARCHIVAL RESEARCH UPDATE

Approximately 10,000 pages of archival documents collected by DPMO researchers have been forwarded to the National Archives for inclusion in the Special Collection on the Korean and Cold Wars. The documents were found at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, the Navy Archives, the Marine Historical Center, the Center for Military History, and the Army Intelligence and Security Command. They include records of telephone calls and meetings between high-ranking members of the Eisenhower administration; minutes of meetings of National Security Council working groups; war diaries of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviation units fighting in the Korean War; messages reporting the names of American POWs repatriated during each day of Operation Big Switch; and diplomatic exchanges related to American aircraft shot down by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. These documents should be available to researchers at the National Archives within the next six weeks.
