Re: US Concludes US POWs Alive In N. Korea
Date: August 11, 1997
Reuter's is reporting that US officials have come to the conclusion that some US personnel remained alive in Chinese and North Korean captivity after the end of hostilites in North Korea.
This is not news to the POW-MIA issue community.
The publicly announced conclusion comes after an USAF document was declassified. The report, dated Oct. 19, 1955, and covering 137 Air Force cases, goes into details regarding a failed rescue attempt of a B-29 air crew that was unrepatriated. The cases are listed as men, "who may possibly be alive, or may have been alive in Communist captivity at one time."
In addition, the news report goes to state that the US has finally requested - by name - the whereabouts of unaccounted for men from China. Needless to say, China and North Korea deny holding any men after the war.
Specifically five men, the B-29 crew, are listed as having been captives and not being returned. They are part of the 389 list which the US passes on to the North Koreans every year like clock-work, and the North Koreans deny every year like clock-work. It is unknown whether these are the same men that have been subjects of live sighting reports in North Korea over the years. The men who have been seen in North Korea are alleged to be English teachers.
