Laos - The Black Hole. Rife with caves and secret places. Read many of the reports on Prisoners and Missing in Laos, and the complex cave system is there. How many men were secreted there? How many languished for years, decades even... unknown, unseen.
The government of Laos opened some of those secret caves today.
For researchers, students and tourists wishing to know more about the war, they may now visit the caves, collectively known as 'City of Victory' or Vieng Xai.
In reading the reports of Vieng Xai, we notice one thing - they are natural shelters with terrain impregnable and unapproachable. They are also located at the closest point to Hanoi. It was also reported that some were so cavernous that a circus was able to perform there, and that many featured electricity, air tight chambers, commodes and offices.
Laos plans to include restaurants and 'touristy' things in their renovation of the revered caves. They will offer histories of Vieng Xai. Only one question remains...
Where are the men, the POWs, who were held in these caves?
