After 29 Years, McCain Meets Man Who Saved His Life

In October 1967, Naval Pilot John McCain ejected from a crippled craft over Vietnam. Mai Van On pulled McCain's body from a lake, and the rest is, as we say, history.

Now 79 years old, Mai Van On met with McCain this week for the first time since the war. After seeing McCain land in the lake, On swam out and rescued him. Upon bringing him to shore, he once again stepped in to save McCain after the surrounding crowd threatened to kill the aviator. Afterwards, McCain was a Prisoner of War at the Hanoi Hilton.

McCain had the opportunity to meet with Mai Van On while travelling in Vietnam to discuss, among other things, trade relations and human rights. It was McCain, who during the SSC Hearings, was adamant in promoting the 'they're all dead' myth of American POWs and MIAs. And it was McCain who was instrumental in supporting Clinton's lifting of the trade embargo and ultimate normalization with Vietnam.

McCain's latest credit is the McCain Amendment which severly impacted the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1995/1996. Who's side is this guy on anyway?
